I view this poem largely in the context that I first heard it, from the 1998 movie, Smoke Signals. The poem performs incredible magic during the final scene of a heartbreaking story. Dick Lourie’s powerful yet tender poem, Forgiving our Fathers was one of the first poems that I remember really falling in love with.
